Ford’s Plans for the 2011 Geneva Motor Show

American automaker Ford has a long history in Britain, and with their lineup of vehicles slated for unveiling at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show in March, they also appear to be paving the way toward the future through various innovations. These range from improved fuel economy to entirely emissions-free motoring.

Going All-ElectricEven though it has already been unveiled at the North American International Auto Show, the Ford Focus Electric is perhaps the most highly-anticipated of Ford’s new vehicles. Although it will be a year before this car makes it to Europe, it is a groundbreaking advancement in the Ford family, as it is the first all-electric vehicle from the US-based manufacturer.

The goal for low- to zero-emissions vehicles is not only limited to Ford’s line of cars that will be going on sale in the UK, however. The Transit Connect, which is a popular commercial van, is also undergoing development in an electric version. American-based Azure Dynamics is currently working on the van’s electric power train. It is currently still in the testing stage, and the all-electric van will be going on sale in the UK in later 2011.

Plugging InNext up on the agenda for Ford is the plug-in hybrid. The C-Max Energi is based on the C-Max five-passenger compact MPV. The plug-in version, which boasts high fuel economy and low emissions, is scheduled for a 2013 release in Europe.

Other DebutsFord is also working on making their large cars more efficient to drive: the Mondeo ECOnetic boasts an emissions level of 114g/km. Other Ford debuts at the show include a special-edition version of the Ka, called the Metal Ka, which is scheduled for an April UK release. Also up for release is the new Ranger Wildtrak which is scheduled to go on sale in the UK at the end of 2011.

Finally to add some suspense to the stage is Ford’s hint at the debut of a groundbreaking mystery vehicle. Given their rapid advancements in green technology, it is speculated that the mystery car will be something along those lines. However, the answer will be revealed when the Geneva Motor Show begins the first week of March.
